Daisy Khan started with the presumption of the validity of her religion where nobody really knows who made all this and then started discussing unity in diversity. The problem was Hitchens simply does not accept it as any more than a fabrication of an illiterate camel merchant and mocks it as plagiarized childishness in its entirety. Daisy Khan has never experienced someone striking at the very root in this way in all the conferences she's been in.

Neither are philosophical, Christopher Hitchens is a neo-platonist in my eyes and bill donohue is an idiot. You are either one of three, a mystic, a skeptic or an objectivist. A mystic believes god and truth are inherent in objects and existence itself. Skeptics believe the senses are deceptive and reason is an illusory faculty. An objectivist believes truth and value can ONLY be known by the senses and reason. You either believe your emotions and faith are a valid method of thinking or you believe a logical process of thought is the only way of validating concepts.

Hitchens' response to the question at 1:18:50 is disappointing and shocking in its naivety. Surely he didn't really believe that the US had suddenly decided to get on the "right side of history" for humanitarian reasons? It's somewhat telling that he never addresses Parenti's points about the US support for Saddam in the years before the Gulf War. I have to conclude, as have others in these comments, that he was completely blinded by his hatred for Islam when it came to his defence of the Iraq debacle.

I often come back to Christopher Hitchens talks. In America today Hitchens has proven right about the dangers of power of religion. With the removal of empowerment to women, a corrupt ex Pretendent being empowered as a messenger of God, when it is obvious he is not the religious person he is believed to be and the danger of religion taking over the rule of America.

"religion can be used...." exactly. it is not God who ruins everything. it is humans who ruin everything. Hitch was an educated, articulate man, but coming to the conclusion that everything humans put her hand/minds to would be good, if God didn't ruin it; that's just foolish.

I don’t understand the point about the Geneva Conventions, they have nothing to do with it. The real question is when and how is it justified and who makes that decision? Should it only be used on a member of ISIS? A suspected member of ISIS? What about a member of ISIS who is also American? Or a suspected member of ISIS who is also American captured in the US? Should politicians decide? What about heads of agencies appointed by politicians?

Wisdom of the gods I don't believe in god; but I believe in the myth of god, and I enjoy religion. I don't believe in divine men; but I believe in heroines and great men; and I believe in honoring them. I don't have much belief in faith; and I don't have much faith in belief, eiher; but I do give credence to the wisdom of the people's gods. From a secular view, the Hebrew Bible is major icon of the Western Culture, as great or greater than Homer, Virgil, or Shakespeare. There are no greater myths than the Creation stories, Adam and Eve, the Flood and the Ten Commandments, Job, Jonah, and the Song of Songs, et cetre. Where is there hope without god? Where do I get my morality? To whom do I bend a knee? We pray, we davon, like we sing and dance. With joy, sorrow, and gratitude. With love and hope for the good of mankind. ## ## ## After the divine Dionysus, Achilles, Romulus, and Ceasar Augustus, all born of virgins, all sons of gods, all rose up to heaven, no one has ever again become Divine. All successors are surely copies and fakes. The first written evidence of a deiti was recorded in Egypt from the Early Dynastic Period (cerca 3,100 - 2,686 BCE), long before the Christian era. The first historical record of a crucifixion was around 519 BC by the Persians. (Heradotus)

Christopher Hitchens was not a Marxist, though he was influenced by Marxist ideas during certain periods of his life. Hitchens, a prominent British-American writer, critic, and public intellectual, had a complex and evolving relationship with Marxism and leftist ideology. In his early years, Hitchens was associated with the political left and was influenced by Marxist thought. He was an active member of various socialist and left-wing organizations, including the International Socialists (now the Socialist Workers Party) in the United Kingdom. Hitchens' early writings and activism reflected his engagement with socialist and Marxist ideas, particularly his critiques of capitalism and imperialism. However, Hitchens' views evolved significantly over time, particularly after the fall of the Soviet Union and the events of 9/11. He became increasingly critical of what he saw as the failures and totalitarian tendencies of Marxist regimes, such as those in the Soviet Union and China. His disillusionment with authoritarianism led him to distance himself from orthodox Marxism. By the later stages of his career, Hitchens had shifted towards a more liberal and sometimes neoconservative stance, especially in his strong support for the U.S. invasion of Iraq and his critiques of religious fundamentalism and authoritarianism. His emphasis on individual liberties, free speech, and democratic values often put him at odds with traditional Marxist positions. In summary, while Christopher Hitchens was influenced by Marxist ideas and was associated with the political left during his early career, he ultimately distanced himself from Marxism and developed a more complex and independent ideological stance that incorporated elements of liberalism, secular humanism, and a strong advocacy for individual freedoms.

A god is not detectable in any way. That's very suspicious because that is exactly the same characteristic of something that does not exist in reality! And the best but also only excuse that God has for all the suffering, death and injustice in this world is that "HE" DOES NOT EXIST! There is not a shred of evidence for the existence of ANY god or Allah or whatever name they gave to their non-existing celestial dictator. And science and especially evolution have already debunked the crux of christianity and the crux of all the other religions I know of ages ago!

@@2wheelz3504 Hilarious! There is a clear difference here and no equivalence at all: you've made things up under the guise that you are entitled to "know" and indeed can be "certain" about matters that simply cannot be known. That is absolute nonsense - which is why I justifiably asked you to "Share your epistemology with us" - i.e. explain how you think you can "know" these things, that can't be "known" and can only be "believed". But instead of attempting to justify yourself you set-off on a foot-stamping narcissistic rant - claiming to be entitled to lie about what you can "know" - as if it is your "right". You are clearly unable to separate knowledge from belief and quite obviously don't even know what they mean. You substitute reasoned arguments for ignorant assertions, like a brat throwing a tantrum. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Life is a beautiful struggle. All and eternal praise is for Allah the most high. The grand. No power or might exist except with him. The originator of the heavens and the earth. The most merciful and crown sovereign of existence. Allah states in the Quran that all living things are created from water. Water is the basis to life. Blessed are they who take the time to think. We have been created with an intellect. An awareness of the self. A gift of immense value. We are the directors of our lives. All sovereignty may belong to god and he is the author of Life, yet he has given us the choice of direction in which way we wish to lead thus free will. He has shown us through signs that glorify his blessed name the road to absolute and eternal happiness and bliss. He has dictated that no soul will carry any burden beside their own. The blessed and exalted book which we Muslims call the Quran is a mercy to mankind and a guide from darkness to light. The central belief in Islam is to believe in one god alone. Allah is god in Arabic. And do good works in terms of deeds to the betterment of your life to come. Allah blessed, be his name and attributes explains in detail why we have been created from nothingness and our very beginning . His command is “Be”and whatever he intends does not escape any realm. Allah states "has there not come a period of time where humans were nothing to be mentioned?. If we look at human history we know the earth existed longer than humans have existed. So this is a statement of truth. Another example I deduced was to look at my own mortality and all of existence and I have come to the realization 30 years ago I was nothing to be mentioned because I was not in this realm of existence. Likewise everything in existence will perish except the majesty of our creator and what he intends. Allah the most high explains why we have been created. Allah, blessed be his majesty reminds us that it is Allah who created the human being from water emitted from male and female sexual discharge. And we have been given the gifts of being a hearer and a seer in order to be tested. The gift of life is profound and can not be comprehended . The bounties of our creator are boundless and can never be enumerated whether we are grateful or ungrateful. But most of us choose to be ungrateful. It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you out as a child; then [He develops you] that you reach your [time of] maturity, then [further] that you become elders. And among you is he who is taken in death before [that], so that you reach a specified term; and perhaps you will use reason Allah the irresistible is the creator of all that exists. The most merciful, the loving and the extremely generous. Allah, the responsive who relieves distress. He is the giver of peace and tranquillity. Allah is the giver of life and the cause and mandate for death. Allah, the all powerful all majesty, sovereignty and honour belong to him. He shares his command with none and does as he intends. He is all wise all hearing, all knowing, all seer and the witness to creation. His command is one and he is the most great. there is no god but Allah, The ever living who dies not. Allah has no beginning no end. No fatigue nor slumber touch him. He is the creator unlike his creation his attributes are majestic and incomparable to anything in existence . He is beyond time and space but they both are in his control and willingly follow the command of Allah the blessed .No mind nor heart can fathom the greatness of Allah, no vision can grasp him yet he grasps all vision. That is Allah the supreme creator so how do we delude ourselves.
